terracotta warriorsTerracotta half-life was founded in the summer of 2004 in an attempt to energize the local music scene with a distinctly fresh sound; the sound of Tropical Funk. By the end of the year, the band had evolved into a five-piece group. After bursting onto the local scene with a performance at the Tsunami relief show in February of 2005, they quickly began to build a reputation as a band that could heat up a party and keep it hot. They have helped raise money and awareness for such causes as Tsunami relief, Hurricane Katrina relief, the Delta Area Animal Society, and the UP Children’s Museum. In 2006, Terracotta half-life was featured on the Tribute to Jim “Smiley” Lewis DVD.

2008-08-06Since the group’s inception, they have been playing throughout the northern Michigan region, steadily gaining momentum. Still going strong, the line-up has changed several times and the band has evolved, but the essence remains the same. Their unique blend of styles can best be described as Tropical Funk. Leaning heavily into the traditions of Afrobeat, Latin-Jazz, Funk, Fusion and Soul, they manage to create an energetic soundscape that is classic yet futuristic at the same time. By combining high-energy poly rhythms with powerful melodies and mind-awakening lyrics, Terracotta half-life has become a springboard to higher levels of global consciousness.
